This is the first drink recipe I’ve shared. Today was such a gorgeous day outside, and I was in the mood for something refreshing. I made my own simple syrup and muddled fresh raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries in the syrup, a little bit of lemon juice, and brandy. I then poured red wine and sparkling water over the muddled fruit, and garnished it with a fresh mint sprig.
This recipe only makes 2 drinks, but feel free to double or triple the recipe if you are entertaining. I don’t like my sangria too sweet, but if you do, this recipe makes extra simple syrup so you can add more to cater to your taste.
Makes 2 drinks
1/2 c. diced strawberries
1/4 c. blackberries
1/4 c. raspberries
juice of 1/2 a lemon
2 T. brandy
1/4 c. simple syrup (1/2 c. water, 1/4 c. sugar)
2/3 c. red wine of your choice (I used a red blend)
3/4 c. sparkling water (I used Perrier)
handful or two of ice
Begin by making the simple syrup so that it has time to cool. Combine water and sugar, and let come to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool.
Combine berries in a small pitcher or large plastic cup. Add lemon juice, brandy, and cooled simple syrup. Muddle the mixture with the back of a wooden spoon or muddler if you have one. Next, pour wine into the mixture, and finish it off with sparkling water and ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint and some more fresh berries to float on the top.
Enjoy!
