Fig season is WAY too short. I absolutely love these sweet little fruits, and the little texture “pop” of the seeds in your mouth. Can’t get enough. If you read my blog regularly, you probably know I am always making healthier sweet treats and snacks to have on hand. These are PERFECT for those times when you’re craving a little something after dinner or midday.
Instead of decorating them with sprinkles, I used all different kinds of superfoods to boost the nutritional content and make them pretty! So much fun, and so customizable.
I used cacao nibs, matcha green tea powder, goji berries, chia seeds, toasted coconut, and sea salt to decorate the figs. Hemp seeds, mini chocolate chips, granola, chopped dried fruit, and chopped nuts would all be great too!
I’m a huge fan of super dark chocolate..I usually use 70-85% cacao. 85% is my absolute fave, but feel free to use milk, semisweet, or any chocolate you’d like! This “recipe” is very forgiving.
You can also freeze these and take them out as you get a craving for something a little sweet…and also since figs are in season for such little time!
Another thing I love to do with figs is serve them sliced over crostini with whipped ricotta, olive oil, honey or balsamic glaze, sometimes some herbs, and sea salt. SO so good. Maybe I’ll share that recipe soon if you guys want? I think I will.
Superfood Dark Chocolate Covered Figs
Ingredients
- 12 oz. fresh black mission figs, halved (10-12 figs)
- 3.2 oz. dark chocolate, chopped (I used 72%)
- 1/2 tsp. coconut oil
- Topping ideas:
- chia seeds
- goji berries
- cacao nibs
- matcha green tea powder
- toasted coconut
- sea salt
- granola
- chopped nuts
- hemp seeds
- dried fruit
- mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Place chopped dark chocolate in a medium microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between. Mine took about 1 1/2 minutes. Stir in coconut oil while still hot.
Dip figs in chocolate and sprinkle with toppings of choice. Let dry on parchment or wax paper and refrigerate until set, at least an hour. These stay in the fridge for a couple days, or you can freeze them for up to a month!
