Who loves a good mule as much as I do? I absolutely LOVE ginger, and the combination of ginger and lime can be so refreshing, but also comforting in a way. It’s a cocktail that definitely takes me through summer and the colder months too! I decided to make this one with bourbon, which was a first for me. I always make them with vodka, but the bourbon in these mixed with the apple cider is so delicious. It just WORKS.
I think the bourbon technically makes these “Kentucky” mules instead of “Moscow” mules, but I thought that bourbon apple cider mules sounded better!
Bourbon immediately makes me think of my grandma and my mom too. They love drinking bourbon and cokes, and have since I can remember. I grew up having little “tastes” of their drinks, but never developed a huge taste for bourbon until I had these!
It’s definitely the apple cider and ginger beer that made me a bourbon convert. I talked about my love for apple cider earlier this week with these doughnuts, and it continues with these mules. The taste is so nostalgic to me and I look forward to getting fresh apple cider in stores and at farms too in the fall!
My other favorite part of these drinks is the addition of sliced honeycrisp apples (the BEST), and cinnamon sticks! As the honeycrisp slices soak in the drink, they get all boozy and delicious. I can’t get over how incredible they taste compared to other apples. The perfect mixture of tart, sweet, and juicy. I cannot get enough. The cinnamon sticks add a little bit of spice and warmth, and they double as a cocktail stirrer! Super festive and fun!
The perfect treat for this beautiful fall weekend!
