These Watermelon Grapefruit Margaritas are made with fresh watermelon juice, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila (obviously), orange liqueur, and a touch of simple syrup for sweetness! Such a perfect, refreshing summertime cocktail!

It’s about time I shared a watermelon recipe this summer! I’m always so obsessed with peaches, corn, and basil and I forget how much I love watermelon! Especially making fresh juice out of it. It’s SO good. I could drink it alllll day.

These margaritas are the perfect balance of sweet and tart and they go down WAY too easily.

There are worse things though, right?

Margaritas will forever be my favorite cocktail, so I’m always looking for new variations to the classic. These winter citrus ones are a HUGE favorite (maybe my favorite ever), and I’m also known to love a beergarita. These blood orange ones are SO good too.

I’m really lovvvving these watermelon grapefruit margs for summer though. The combination of the fresh watermelon juice and tart grapefruit is just to die for!

If you’re thinking – how the heck do I make watermelon juice?! It’s really the easiest thing ever. Cut up a watermelon, throw it in the blender, and blend until smooth. Then, just strain it through a fine mesh strainer, and there you have it! Fresh watermelon juice that I could seriously chug all day.

I love keeping the extra in the fridge to enjoy just by itself, over ice, or with a little lime! It’s delicious in sangria too.

In all of my margaritas, I use tequila and Grand Marnier. I don’t have too much of a preference whether it’s gold or silver, but in these I used gold! The GM is kind of non- negotiable for me though – it’s a game changer in margaritas. Call me high maintenance but it’s just the best!

And for these, I didn’t make a crazy simple syrup, just plain! I often keep some in the fridge for cocktails, iced coffee, sangria, etc.

So if you want to, you should double it! Nothing wrong with having cocktail making ingredients at-the-ready at all times, right?!

Cheers to summer and Friday!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
  • 1 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 2 1/2 ounces fresh watermelon juice*
  • 1 ounce simple syrup*
  • salt for rimming the glass
  • lime slices for garnish
  • grapefruit slices for garnish
  • watermelon slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Moisten the edge of your glass with a lime wedge and rim in salt. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add a few ice cubes to a cocktail shaker and add the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, grapefruit juice, watermelon juice, and simple syrup. Shake for 20-30 seconds and pour in the glass. Garnish with a lime slice, grapefruit slice, and a watermelon slice. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

*For the simple syrup, bring 1 cup water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Once boiling, add 1 cup sugar and stir for 30 seconds or until dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
*To make watermelon juice, cut up a watermelon into cubes (discard the rind), add to a blender, and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh strainer and voila! I used one baby watermelon which was about 7 cups of watermelon, and it made a ton of extra juice.
*Makes a lot of extra simple syrup. Will keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks!
*If you want to make these pitcher-style for a crowd, I'd measure all of the margarita ingredients out for how many people you want to make them for, add everything to a pitcher, and chill the mixture in the fridge. When you're ready to serve, add the crushed ice, and serve!
