These palomas are made with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila, blood orange soda, a little agave nectar, and a splash of your favorite beer! They’re similar to a beergarita but with more of a citrusy flavor! They can be made pitcher-style for a crowd too!

I’m SO sad that blood orange season is almost over. I look forward to their beauty and deliciousness every single year, and I try to use them in as many recipes as humanly possible. I hope you’re ok with that. This one has blood orange slices AND blood orange soda it it! So we’ve got double the blood orange-ness.

Along with the blood orange flavors, we’ve got freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed lime juice, tequila of course, and a little agave! I usually make simple syrups for my cocktails, but the agave works SO well in this and the blood orange soda adds sweetness too!

I knew I had to share a cocktail today, since tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, and I wanted it to have beer, but I rarely make cocktails with beer. Unless it’s a beergarita. And this is another one of my faves!

Since margaritas are so amazing with beer, I figured, why not a paloma? And here we are. There are SO amazingly good. I love using an IPA for these, because I like my beers on the hoppier side, but feel free to use whatever you like!

As long as you’d drink the beer on its own, it will be amazing in these. The most important parts are the blood orange soda (I use the Italian kind like this one), and the freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime juice!

These are so dangerously good. And they can be made pitcher style too!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 3 ounces blood orange soda
  • 1/2 ounce agave nectar
  • 1 ounce beer (I used an IPA)
  • sliced grapefruit, blood orange, and lime for serving
  • crushed ice
  • coarse salt for rimming the glass

Instructions

  1. Moisten the edge of your glass with a lime wedge and rim in the coarse salt. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add a few ice cubes to a cocktail shaker and add the grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila, blood orange soda, and agave. Shake for 20 seconds and pour into the glass. Top with the beer and stir. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit, lime, and blood orange. Serve immediately!

Recipe Notes

*To make these pitcher-style for a crowd, combine grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila, and agave in a pitcher in the quantities you need of each ingredient. Store in the fridge until ready to serve. Once ready to serve, add crushed ice, and top with the blood orange soda and beer and stir to combine. Add the sliced fruit as well, if desired.
