Blood Orange Ginger Smoothie
I know that I say that apple season and fig season and butternut squash season are all my “favorite,” but I am 100% serious when I say blood orange season is my absolute favorite. I mean how gorgeous are they?! I love citrus so much. They add so much brightness and freshness to everything. And I already have three other recipes with blood oranges planned, so get ready!

Just like every produce season, it’s never long enough, so I have to cram these beauties into everything while I can! This smoothie is SO good and fresh. It’s perfect for busting a bad cold or for post workout.

The citrus and ginger give this smoothie tons of vitamin C and antioxidants, and it’s filled with protein from the Greek yogurt, almond butter, and hemp seeds. So many good things!

To make this smoothie extra creamy, I added frozen banana and mango, which makes smoothies SO thick and creamy, and they also compliment the blood orange and ginger flavors really well!

But if you don’t like banana or mango, you can use all of one or the other! It will yield the same creamy result.

The most important thing here is obviously the gorgeous blood oranges.

Also, super random, but does anyone else crave smoothies WAY more in the winter? I’ve had a smoothie for breakfast for probably the past two-three weeks straight and I can’t get enough. Maybe it’s my body subconsciously detoxing from Christmas cookies? I have no clue but I LOVE them in the winter! (Even when it’s -7 degrees like it has been).

Blood Orange Ginger Smoothie

My mom used to bring back blood orange juice from her travels in Europe when I was a little kid and I remember being young, maybe seven or eight years old, and not knowing what blood oranges were. My mom explained that they tasted like a mixture of oranges and fruit punch, and she’s SO right about that. I can’t think of a better way to explain how blood oranges taste!

I can still remember how that juice tasted and it was SO amazing.
