This BBQ chicken dip is lightened up with Greek yogurt instead of sour cream or mayonnaise, and you’d never be able to tell! So addicting and perfect for entertaining! This dip is great served with tortilla chips or your favorite crackers!

Lightened-Up BBQ Chicken Dip
Would it be acceptable to only eat appetizers for every meal? Pretty sure I’d be the happiest person ever. In my family I’m known as “the picker.” I LOVE trying a bunch of different things when going out to restaurants, and entertaining with a bunch of apps (and eating off of my family members plates too shhh). I can’t help it! It’s just who I am. This recipe would be PERFECT for entertaining and this weekend’s big game!

And it’s lightened-up. Can you believe it? I know it doesn’t look like it, but the base is made with just a little cheese, shredded chicken, and mostly Greek yogurt! I used my favorite barbecue sauce as well, which is sweetened with dates instead of sugar. Absolutely LOVE it. Can’t get enough of the stuff! It’s so delicious. This is not sponsored, I just really love the stuff! You can use whatever your favorite BBQ sauce is.

That cheeeeese! Can’t believe it’s lightened up can you? You’ll never know the difference. I promise. Next I want to make a buffalo chicken version..because what is better? Buffalo flavored everything is just.so.addicting.

The other thing I love about this is that it comes together so quickly. You can use pre-shredded chicken, leftover rotisserie chicken, or whatever you have on hand. I usually put several chicken breasts in the slow cooker for a few hours on Sundays, so I have shredded chicken for salads all week, and whatever else I need to use it for. That’s what I used for this recipe!

I used a mixture of cheddar and monterey jack here, but I just thought of the idea that pepperjack would probably be DELICIOUS here if you like spicy!

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (I used 0% but 2% would be even creamier)
  • 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce (I used Tessemae's)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 ounces cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 4 ounces monterey jack cheese, freshly grated
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (I used leftover chicken breasts, rotisserie chicken would work well here too!)
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced
  • BBQ sauce for drizzling
  • tortilla chips or your favorite chips for dipping!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375℉. Spray a 10-12 inch cast iron skillet or baking dish with nonstick spray. Set aside.

  2. In a medium bowl, stir together the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, BBQ sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder until smooth and combined. Add half of the cheddar and half of the monterey jack and stir. Add the shredded chicken and stir to combine.

  3. Add the chicken mixture to the skillet or baking dish. Top with remaining cheeses and bake for 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and edges are golden.

  4. Once finished, sprinkle with red onion, cilantro, and scallions, and drizzle with extra BBQ sauce. Serve with tortilla chips or your favorite dippers!
